One of the biggest things for a local school in Manila are their fairs. People from all different kinds of schools come to fairs to ride rides, play booths, eat and of course, watch variety shows! About two weeks ago, my friends and I went to the Xavier fair and it is kind of odd how I just noticed that the grounds of Xavier are way bigger than in my school.
It was only until I saw the booths when I found out the theme for this year was sort of like witchcraft and wizardry. I must say the students were pretty creative when it came to coming up with names for their booth. And in every fair you CAN’T forget the marriage, jail and flush booth. However, this year I saw something different, I came across a torture b00th. When you were captured, they would place you in a hanging thing like the tudor times, throw flour on you, and place worms on your head! I’m not exaggerating! Good thing I wasn’t caught.
After a long day of strolling around in the hot weather, I asked myself, what is the point of going to a fair anyways? Was it because of the rides? Or the shows? Maybe, but I think fairs are made for people to come together. I can honestly say I met a lot new of friends because of fairs and some of them turned out to be some of my closest friends now! Unlike my school which is co-ed, Local schools are either just boys, or just girls and fairs are away to meet up with girls or boys who aren’t just your every day classmates.
After sweating like animals because of the occasional dress code, I had such a fun day just hanging out with my friends in the Xavier fair and in other schools that I went to in the past. I’m looking forward to more. What’s next? La Salle? 🙂
