Taking a break from the usual realistic fiction novels I normally read, I moved to something different recently. Adding to my library is Preview magazine stylist Liz Uy’s book named Stylized. I have fashion books telling me about garments of clothing, how to illustrate designs, fashion dos and don’ts but never a style guide on how to pair basic items of clothing. The ten chapters included in this book are: the white v-neck, little black dress, blazer, white button-down shirt, slacks, leggings, jeans, tank-top, shorts, and pencil skirt. Its genius how Liz is able to come up with so many outfits, and some in ways I never even imagined.
What’s interesting about this style guide is that 10 Filipina celebrities are featured in it too. These include: Anne Curtis, Bea Alonzo, Marian Rivera, Bianca Gonzalez, Georgina Wilson, Sarah Geronimo, Julia Barretto, Toni Gonzaga and Kris Aquino. Each of them have a page telling us about their background and personal style. Oh and of course Liz is in every chapter showing us how she would wear something. There are also loads of information on the different eras of fashion, fashion around the world, how to accessorize, and even how to alter your garments.
Stylized is a book full of interesting facts and helpful advice. It’s definitely shown me that there are countless ways to style something and that experimenting is something used a lot when it comes to styling. For example, there was a picture of Liz wearing a plain white V-neck t-shirt with a grey ball gown over it. I thought that was odd at first but came to figure out that it’s actually really nice! I really suggest getting copy of stylized even if you’re not into fashion. It’s just something you can flip through if you have no idea what to wear. Lucky for me, my book is signed by Liz herself. Thanks to Robby Carmona for giving me a copy of the book and having it signed for me! Out of 5 stars? 5! It’s an easy read and very helpful. I will definitely turn to this book if my mind goes blank.
