After x years the fashion industry has called me to walk on the runway once again. The To Be You Streetstyle book by Inquirer showcases a plethora of fashion-forward filipinos who have been spotted by photographer, Ronan Capili. He has been accumulating photos from 2009 to 2015 and all of his hard work has been put into one book. In it, are several chapters which each have a different trend. Similarly, the fashion show in To Be You book launch’s fashion show was split into trends too. My good friend Ash and I decided to be part of Denim, and choosing an outfit was way harder than it seemed. Ash wore Bench, and I wore Wear Anika and Abercrombie.
This whole experience was real. I saw familiar faces in the crowd and soon after, I realized that they were models I always see in fashion week, store openings etc. It’s a pretty cool role reversal – models watch; students walk. It was unfiltered, and I’m happy that the Philippine fashion industry is recognizing that not everyone has “model” bodies. The fact that this was street wear also means that people realistically wear the outfits you see on stage. Special thanks to coach Ronan Capili, and Luis Carlos San Juan for letting me be a part of the book launch. And thanks to Alyzza Samson and Ysabel Vitangcol for the photos!
