I had mixed emotions once our style lab workshop has ended: happy, sad, relieved, and the list goes on. I can’t believe its already over. Style lab was such an amazing experience for me as both a blogger and a stylist. I was able to speak up and be myself in front of keen young fashionistas. I shared all my opinions and insights to everyone just how I do from my blog, and I not only taught people about fashion but learned from them as well. I was presented to girls and boys wearing outfits that I never thought of. I experimented with my own fashion as well because every mall was a different style. I was overjoyed that I was able to be part of the style lab team and it opened many doors for me.
I already talked about the first five malls we visited in my post called Halfway, and the next five were: SM Santa Rosa, SM Masinag, SM Fairview, SM Megamall and SM Mall of Asia. I took on new challenges, met new faces and some old ones as well. I thought it would be boring saying the same things over and over again but tita patty sometimes asked us different questions that we were all new to. It was such a pity how Ysabela couldn’t join us in the last three malls, but I know she enjoyed herself as she’s out and about right now. It was great how Allyzza’s older sister Ashleigh became a guest stylist in the last two malls (SM Megamall and SM Mall of Asia) and we didn’t seem as empty. About those two malls, those were the places where we would all skate. We first started skating in Megamall but sadly it was shut down, and it was joyful how the style lab event was in the exact same place the rink was. It brought back a lot of memories. In Mall of Asia, I was able to pass by the rink and see some of my friends skating. I really wanted to skate that day but I knew I couldn’t: I had to do my job and study for exams.
About the clothes themselves, looking at the display area reminded me why I like SM kids fashion so much. They have a huge range of clothes and a wide variety. As I would always say during our talks, “not getting stuck to a particular look”. You might think that for the girls there are only girl and feminine clothes but there are loads to choose from. There are statement pieces and funky garments yet there are casual and basic pieces as well. I know I can create many outfits with their collections. Even for the boys there are so much to choose from. Starting from colored pants to ombre tops, there’s lots! That’s why I see lots of different outfits when participants walk the runway. But there are always favorite pieces, based on my observations, the dresses with an eyelet top and a floral skirt is one almost everybody wants.
Style lab has been a great opportunity that I certainly could not miss, it gave me more confidence and I was able to step an inch closer into the fashion world because of this. I still can’t believe its over! No more friday nights where my room looks like a jungle and I’m looking for that one little necklace; or countless hours of looking at lookbook.nu for inspiration; or searching through my camera to see if I look awkward and most of all; being able to see my friends every week and joking about crazy things and eating like pigs at nearby restaurants. I will miss seeing my friends and aspiring fashionistas on the runway. I will miss tita patty talking about the differences between the 80’s and now. I will miss saying hi to sepoy and the rest of the trumpets crew. I’m so grateful that SM kids fashion gave us this opportunity, and that tita patty chose me to be one of her junior stylists- thankyou so much! This is not the last of the style lab team. I’m hoping there will be more to come.
