If you’re wondering why my family call holidays an amazing race, it is because we go to so many places in a short period of time. And when I say family, its not just my parents and siblings, It’s the whole of my mom’s side! Every year for easter break, we go somewhere in the Philippines and this time, we decided to go to Cebu. For some reason, every time my family and I go to Cebu, we would always stay in Shangri-La Resort and Spa, Mactan. With a definite yes, we made that place our home for a few days as always.
I hate waking up early in the morning, and the only thing I look forward to is eating breakfast. Sadly, I had to wake up at an urging 4 am to catch our flight. My mom allowed me to bring one friend, I chose one of my closest friends, Allyzza. It’s always fun to have a friend coming with you on holiday. Our first day was relaxing. After checking in, we swam in both the beach and pool starting at 3 o’clock onwards. I refused to swim anytime before then because my mom told me, the sun was too hot from 11AM ’til 3PM and that I would get a bad sun burn.
That was also the day I introduced Allyzza to Scoops, an amazing ice cream parlor that could only be found in Shangri-La Cebu. And almost everyday, twice a day or maybe more, we would go there and eat my favorite flavor, Chocoholic. Which I might as well say was to die for.
Day 2, Again having to wake up early in the morning, we rode two big bangka’s to an island near Mactan, Cebu. You see, my moms family grew up riding boats and fishing and now, we are too! As we rode the bangka, I was rocking back and forth in the open sea listening to the music I love. Of course taking crazy pictures was a must too! Nothing beats that feeling when you’re on a beach trip.
When we got there, we immediately jumped in the water but I didn’t feel like swimming that day, or maybe I just found it was way too hot. So instead, I was sitting in a nipa hut reading my new issue of teen vogue and playing my uncles ukelele. As I mentioned before, I’m picky when I eat, and I don’t really eat anything besides meat and rice. But when you’re at the beach, I guess its appropriate to eat seafood. So we were served fish, crabs, lobster and believe it or not, sea urchins! Fresh fruits were there as well, like mango, watermelon, pineapple and buko juice. Of course, Cebu Lechon was not to be missed! As for me, I just ate inihaw na baboy ( grilled pork belly)
Day 3, This day was when we were allowed to do anything we want. After such a lazy morning of doing nothing, Allyzza, my mom, my grandma and I went to Chi the spa. Being a first timer at this Spa, I was astonished by how big the place was. Before getting into our massages, we were given sometime to use the facilities. We had the choices of staying in the sauna, steam room and swimming pool. Allyzza and I quickly decided to go to the swimming pool, because its hard to breathe in saunas! For the massage itself, we chose the chi balance massage, it was great for tweens because it was designed to make the pressure soft and easy on you.
In the afternoon, before going out of the resort to buy accessories (read more about it in my previous blog entry Accessories Galore) and eat dinner, Allyzza and I decided to go to the beach and try out the peddle boat. At first I wanted to go kayaking but I remembered the last time I went, my cousin and I failed, it was so hard we needed some help to be able to get back to shore. The peddle boat was much easier and my brothers were comfortably sitting in the back while Allyzza and I were doing all the work. Since it was our last afternoon for our Cebu 2013 trip, again we went all out in taking pictures to remember our fantastic time.
Day 4, it was time to head back home. I had such a great time in this trip and I know I will definitely come back to eat more of that ice cream, relax in Chi the Spa and maybe try to kayak and actually reach the shore by myself. This may have been a beach destination popular and ordinary to many but it sure was fun. I know I’ll be back soon.
