After two stressful weeks of school I finally have a day off! (well not really). Going back to the start of this year, you could probably tell that I celebrated the New year in HongKong with my family. It seemed like everyone went to HongKong that Christmas Break, 7 friends of mine went there! What I loved was the cold weather that you don’t get back in Manila. Even though it was warmer than I expected, I still managed to enjoy it. So, what can you do for five long days in the city? Shop, shop and shop some more! But don’t worry, we didn’t go over the top.
One of the first things I got excited about was reuniting with the amazing custard cakes in City Super and my favorite chocolate brand, Jean-Paul Hevin. It’s normal that we get happy over food, I mean who doesn’t? Here are two snacks that I can’t afford to miss eating when I go there. I even got my auntie, Ysabela addicted to the custard cakes as well! It was really convenient staying at Marco Polo Gateway Hotel because the mall was right beside it :).
There are so many things you can find in HongKong, the choices are unlimited. From clothes, shoes and bags to gadgets and stationery. My shopping buddy while on that trip was Ysabela. I think it’s great to have one because they can help you decide whether something is worth it or not. Starting with the clothing stores, here are the ones we went to: Topshop, H&M, Abercrombie and Fitch, Holister, Moussy and Jack Wills. Photo above by Ysabela Narvasa
Out of of the 6, you probably wouldn’t know two of the brands I mentioned. And this is what I love about going abroad, you get to find things that’s not in your home country or better yet anywhere else in the world. The plus side of shopping in unknown brands is that you won’t have that problem of having the same item of clothing than someone else. Take time to look into stores you never seen! I bought one shirt each in Moussy and Jack Wills. Ysabela and I actually fell in love with the British Brand Jack Wills as their clothes match both of our styles. And not only that, they sell other things like stationery and gadgets too!
Moving on to the things not involved with fashion. Lucky for my brothers and I, my mom bought a GoPro for the family! My dad and brothers are into sports so this is great for them. And sometimes we all go biking and the GoPro can come in handy when wanting to take videos or pictures. Oh! And with the single tripod we bought, we can do selfies to the max! haha! Some other things I got was a boogie board to use for school and polaroid film for my friends.
On New Years eve we ate at Pecking Garden for late dinner. Since I’m not fond of Chinese food at all, there’s not much I can say about this. That night, I just ate fried rice… without the vegetables! Hearing from me wouldn’t be any help at all if you wanted to find a Chinese restaurant. However my parents said it’s really good there especially their pecking duck :).As you can see, we ate sooooo much.
To watch the fireworks, canton road was closed and the streets were jam-packed. There were hundreds of people waiting just to go closer to the Fireworks. It was like they joined a race that could change their lives. And we even saw a guy dressed up as spiderman haha! We waited patiently for the clock to strike 12 and once it did, I was literally jumping (because I believe you grow taller if you do). Although we weren’t able to have a clear view of the fireworks, I remained happy and positive the rest of the evening because I felt it was important for us to start the year right. Lucky for me, so far this year is going great!
We spent New Years Day in the Happiest place on earth! It’s also another place we cannot miss skipping out on. I’m pretty sure i’ll still want to go to disneyland even if i’m in my twenties. Like always, we would take forever just to get in Disneyland. Everything around us was just so distracting and almost every place is a picture spot if you ask me.

WELCOME TO OUR KINGDOM. You’ll see me and Ysabela in this pose multiple times hehe 🙂 By the way we also used the single tripod and attached it to my camera!
We were able to ride three out of the five rides we wanted: Space Mountain, the Grizzly Gulch and RC racer. Yup we just wanted the roller coasters haha!
It was our first time to ride the Mystique Mansion and the effects inside were sooooo good. By the way it isn’t a roller coaster, kind of like Winnie the Pooh and Buzz Light Year where you just sit down and watch what’s around you
Here we go again with the food. But it was my first time eating at Corner Cafe and it was delicious! I ordered baby ribs, talk about being hungry. And we were able to eat the famous Mickey Waffles that my whole family loves! This was the cherry on top for our entire day. We left the restaurant leaving the table with nearly spotless plates.
If you haven’t watched the festival of the Lion King already, I suggest you do! I loved it 🙂 or maybe it’s just me because my dad, not so much. The last day we just spent time going around malls and shopping. Sadly, we didn’t have time to skate at elements but if we did I would be sure to go there! The rink is really nice :). This trip was just as outstanding as 2012 and even better. I will surely miss the cold weather. Like always, can’t wait for the next time we go to HongKong!
