I discovered Bloggers United only when the third one was about to happen. I knew that bloggers from all around in the Philippines came together to sell their clothes and accessories. This time, I was able to pull some strings and attend Bloggers United 5. I went with my ice skating and blogger friend Ysabel (I call her ate Yvi). Even though we arrived really late we were both excited and always said ‘eeeee!’ when we saw a blogger we knew. I knew it would be very grand, I saw so many twitter and instagram posts with long ques of people waiting to go inside. I guess it was a good thing that we arrived a little late even if everyone was ready to go home.
It was stunning how all these bloggers had tons of things to give away. From clothes to bags to shoes and even pins. I figured that the people who are on top never thought of having freebies and a massive closet. I know a lot of bloggers who took two to three years and patience to get their readership. Looking around, Ate Yvi was able to buy a few rings while I wasn’t able to get anything, maybe next time!
Luckily, we were able to catch Tracy Ayson and Dani Barreto as they were still there. I must say that they are very approachable and friendly. There outfits were awesome as well 🙂 I wasn’t able to see her but I quickly found out that Danika Rio Navarro was there as well. I knew her because she was or still is a student from SoFA (School of Fashion and the Arts) and it’s a pleasure to have been studying in the same school as her.
Before setting off going back home, someone from Bloggers united had to borrow Ate Yvi’s camera as he needed to take pictures and videos. He was very friendly and I couldn’t help but notice his green streak of hair :). We met his friends as well and one guy named Patrick Pleno happens to be an intern of a famous stylist in the Philippines. He instantly knew that we were bloggers and told us about how we should simply love writing or blogging and not thinking about the sponsors. We couldn’t agree more. They were all really nice and it brightened up our night when we met these friendly people.
I was excited for the next day as we both came back to SMX to hear the fashion blogger talk. Five bloggers were there to talk about fashion, blogging and photography. Before everything started, I must say that I was freezing cold inside and we even arrived really early. It was okay though as we were able to sit in the second row.
The first people to talk were Lissa Kahayon and David Guison. They presented their talk with a powerpoint presentation and I found myself staring at the design thinking it was something unique. Brick walls and colored speech bubbles are different in so many levels. You see, I usually stick to photos as a background and layer it with a white transparent text box. Both Lissa and David talked about their journey from the bottom to the top; the reasons why you should learn photography; their everyday schedules and their consequences of having sponsors. They told us that it is very important to have that edge in your blog so you will be different from all the others. Lissa is different because she works out and goes to the gym a lot, and David is different because he is simply a male fashion blogger.
After the two talked were Camille Co, Laureen Uy and Kryz Uy. If you read any of their blogs you’ll probably know that the three of them are best friends and I found myself smiling through out their talked because they would always giggle. They didn’t really use the computer as much as Lissa and David but instead they brought in clothes, accessories and talked non-stopped. They told us about choosing a good platform and in their case is WordPress and how they would help each other out when taking each others photos. Fashion wise, Camille talked about how to style print on print; Laureen talked about layering accessories and Kryz talked about make-up. I learned quite a few things but not as much as I hoped but it wasn’t their fault. It’s my inability to understand tagalog and I had ate Yvi translating a lot of filipino words for me. The host even came up to me and asked why I had an accent. But nonetheless it was a great experience and I would like to thank Marielle Ardiente of SM youth for giving us tickets to attended the talk. It was great fun!
Topshop cropped top
Ensembles high-waisted shorts
Abercrombie and Fitch buttoned down shirt
American eagle cami
Forever 21 skirt
Cotton on buttoned down shirt
Call it spring cap
Dr. Martens boots
For both of the days I couldn’t help but layer my outfits with buttoned down shirts. That probably my signature style, even my dad knows it! And both my converse and Dr. Martens make a second appearance on my blog because they are so versatile along with my nude ballet flats.
I spent my first time at bloggers united very well along with Ate Yvi, its something that we are both looking forward to go to in the future. Bloggers United is a great way to give all aspiring bloggers like me to come together and well, unite I guess. Photo credits to Ate Yvi (all the pictures with her watermark are hers!) It was a great weekend.
