Why join a summer program? It forces you out of your comfort zone, pushes your boundaries and teaches you things that can’t be taught in a classroom. Making friends is one example. At the start of the summer I had no idea that I’d have access to collaborating with aspiring fashion photographers such as Ashley Caba. We were both learning how to use manual settings, trying to wrap our heads around the functions of aperture and shutter speed. And what better way is there to become a better photographer than actually having a go and practicing? After getting over our shyness, we decided to have a shoot at the Highline one day after class.
The culture in New York is different. No one was staring at us for a change; It’s deemed as normal to have photos taken of you. And this is common sense but everyone has their own style of doing things. Ashley was so quick on her camera and I was thankful that she told me exactly what to do. We experimented: some photos turned out great and others were not as good. But it’s all part of the learning process. I’m hoping for even more collaborations in the future. Ashley, I hope to see you again real soon! 🙂
