When in HongKong, day trips to Macau and Shenzen, China are very common. We spent our day around Macau, just a one hour ferry ride away from HongKong. I know Macau as the place with really big themed hotels. First off, we went to the Venetian Hotel. Hence the name, the theme was Venice. Inside the hotel, ceilings were painted as clouds that made it seem one would be outdoors. Gondola’s were scattered in the different canals of which we took the Marco Polo canal Gondola ride. Just like in Venice, our Gondolier sang a couple of songs for us.
More amazing ceiling treatments at the Venetian Macau.
After a fantastic early afternoon at the Venetian, we went to Leal Senado square and the fisherman’s Wharf before heading back to Hongkong. Like many towns in Europe, the streets were tight and made out of cobble stones. But the main difference is, people were just like ants crowding the streets. There was barely any space to walk. Nonetheless the influences of Portugal in Macau was very noticeable. I recommend you take a day trip to Macau when you are in Hongkong.
