Its been over 2 months since my very good ice skating/blogger friend ate Yvi (Ysabel) celebrated her 18th birthday at Shangri-La hotel. I thought its better late than never! So here it goes… What’s crazy is the fact that after ate Yvi, the next debut amongst my skating friends will still be in three years. Its only now I realized that I’ve been a debut participant from 2009 to this year for so many of my skating friends.
Before the doors opened, there was a memorabilia outside where objects were set out that are important to ate Yvi’s life. It kind of looked museum. Here’s my favorite part, the ice skating section. Certificates were displayed, and even medals and costumes were hung. Lets not forget the skates! It captured the life of a competitive skater and brought back so many memories.
The theme of the party was vintage vogue. The Isla Ballroom was decorated in pastel colors, delicate center pieces and pearls of course. The place was huge and very welcoming. Vintage vogue is such a good concept and its not a popular theme which makes the debut even more spectacular.
A favorite for most guests I’m guessing was the stage. Sitting in the background was a set of ate Yvi’s favorite things. I couldn’t help but notice a pair of ice skates, a microphone, the eiffel tower and hello kitty of course! Its such an interesting stage that is quite tricky to take your eyes off.
Have you noticed the debutants quick outfit change? 🙂
Here comes the program part! I was lucky enough to be a part of ate Yvi’s eighteen dancers and candles. Thanks again ate Yvi! Since the theme was vintage vogue, we danced to Madonna’s Vogue and Express Yourself. My mom told me Madonna is not actually Vintage vogue but to us it is.
The picture below shows my friend, ate Angela as she was part of the eighteen candles as well as me. She talked about her life with ate Yvi as skaters.
So heres the part I have been dreading. As I said before, I have been a debut participant for quite sometime now but that only was to dance. This party marks the first time I was part of the eighteen candles. I was assigned to talking about me and ate Yvi as blogger friends. Its pretty nerve-racking to talk- not really knowing what to say in front of a big audience. But you feel relieved after you finish your speech. Little did I know, that I talked way too fast and I even had an accent. Oops! They key really is to practice.
When all that was done, ate Yvi was in for a surprise. She technically had two parties in one night. There were two DJ’s in store for us: DJ Chris Myk and DJ X-ray. And its pretty obvious that all the guests danced the night away.
By the way, both of the dresses I wore are from my favorite designer, Ivarluski Aseron. His creations have appeared on Absolutely Savvy quite a few times actually. If you have a big event coming up, I suggest you have something made from him. Everything he makes is so interesting yet simple 🙂
To sum it all up, ate Yvi’s eighteenth birthday party was a great success. Im sure everybody had something to take away from that night. People were entertained, the food was great and the after party was fit for all ages. Now if wonder, if I have a debut, what will mine be like? No matter who’s it is, I always enjoy watching or performing. I can’t wait to see all of the debuts I come across over the years.
